The answer of course is it depends. Do you watch for education and actually learn something or for entertainment? Or both? Doesn’t really matter.

I watch a lot of videos. Some to try and get a better understanding of chess. Whether it’s an opening or logical move. Usually these are done by way higher rated players like IM GM level. Which usually goes way over my head. Bur hopefully I retain a move or concept. Even better if remember to apply it during a game.

I enjoy watching the lower rated player do the playing everyday to 1000 elo thing. At least I’m not the only one making bad moves and blundering my queen. I can relate to these games since I’m at that level and make the same stupid moves. I also tend to binge watch these since so many come out everyday. Probably should scale that back.

If you’re getting what you want out of watching vids then keep watching. But as GM Ben Finegold says “if you want to get better at chess, play more chess”.
